As I've mentioned
before, this organization has been on mine and my husband’s hearts for years, and
we are ready to begin.
In days of the
past, communities worked together. The men in the families worked in the fields
and built houses, while the women cooked, cleaned, and looked after the children. They understood this wasn't only necessary to survive, but to also flourish. It was a community effort. Modern times are much different for many reasons
including the need for both parents to work outside the home. Although Link
Gate can't change that fact, we can bring back some of those principles.
We will begin with
single mothers, elderly and families affected by the economy. Brett
and I are bringing together a core group that are willing to dedicate some time
to help with needs that arise. These needs might include, house cleaning, yard
work, food or minor home repairs. As the needs come in, the group will
coordinate who is available, show up at the designated location, and complete
the project. In most cases, the receiver will then agree to donate time or
something they are capable of doing for someone else. Many are familiar with
the "Pay It Forward" concept, and this is the other principle we
operate on.
At this time we
are looking for volunteers who are willing to donate time and skills to
help others. Once this group is formed, we will be accepting needs of others.
If this idea
speaks to your heart, please email me at brett.owenby@linkg8.com and let us know
what you are willing to do as far as projects.
If you know
someone in need of one of the above mentioned, email that as well, and as soon
as we are ready, we'll be there.
We look forward to
hearing from you and building the community together.
